Dean Edge 09 4-string Electric Bass Guitar Review

  1. Hello, anyone have a takes on the dean basses?.more and so the edge serial?
recently played i at a guiatr center but was pressed for time, seemed to thump pretty well, sweet neck to boot!,whatsoever feed back on this model would be helpful..?
  2. They get some love here. Skillful bang for the buck in my opinion. Utilise the search key, and y'all'll see some threads on Deans.

The Border series is very overnice. I had an Edge 1 a while ago. I never really liked the feel of the neck though.

Look into the United states Hillsboro, it'll blow you abroad. It'due south an amazing bass. Simply information technology's expensive, upwardly of $900.

  4. My friends and I share a practice space. A bassist from 1 of the other bands plays a Dean Border. He and I are friends, so I pick it upwards every now and then and play a few songs on it. I accept fabricated the following conclusions about it:

Information technology has a naturally "scooped" tone. Not very present in the mid-range, but it has a lot of lows and the highs come up out nicely. Corking bass (gasp) for metal. The headstocks on Deans are generally big, so you become a theoretically longer string past the nut. This, in my opinion, allows for more "slinky" strings which are easy to bend and less tense. Unfortunately, the pickups can't seem to handle too much digging in and will misconstrue a trivial but with heavy picking, slapping, etc. Of course, this is preventable. Nigh of Dean's lower end guitars and basses are made from basswood. If you are unfamiliar with basswood, information technology doesn't produce equally sweet of a tone as mahogany or other forest, but it is very lightweight, so you won't get fatigued on stage. You lot tin do a search on information technology for more info.

Overall, it's a great bass for the price range.

    Hope this helps!

  5. I've got 3, ii very depression-end and 1 low-mid. All are great for the toll.
  6. I once had dean basses. I utilise to own a dean ml metalman 4-cord bass and a dean edge five-string bass. they're both slap-up sounding bass guitars. I like the dean edge bass the most. it has a really nice sound. it kinda resembles an Ibanez soundgear bass. if you lot're thinking about purchasing a dean, I'd say give them a shot. you might dig those basses. I know I did.
  7. I got one of the $132.99 Amazon Bartolini Edge Q4s when they were on that insane sale. MSRP was a 1000, I believe.

It's a very nice bass, if you like that sort of thing. Calorie-free, extraordinarily nice ergonomics, proficient Korean Cor-Tek industry.

Very minor neck, furniture bass aesthetics. Not turn-ons for me.

Downside was the EMG active tone command which seems to be OEM in most under-$1k Cor-Tek actives. US Bartolinis deserved meliorate.

Dean has zero resale value, though, so don't drop real coin on 1, and don't pay anything for a used ane.

Amazon however has various Border-series basses cheap, but not annihilation similar the astonishing discount on the Bartolini.

I promise the side by side big trend in music is talent
Some of them are really cheap and some are pretty nice ...
  9. The Dean Border 4 and upwardly models are quite nice imo. Reason I havent owned one is the torso shape just doesnt appeal to me every bit much as comprable to me basses by my fave mfg's.
  10. I agree with Bongo`due south opinion. I had one of the Bart model`s from the sale. Information technology was very nicely constructed and a steal. The Barts weren`t what I expected though, and I sold it. A kinda scooped audio. Then I bought i of the Berlin models on sale. Information technology had stock Dean pups, and I liked it`s sound more than the Bartolini model - a warmer sound overall. They had thin necks - very sparse, like i 1/8th at the nut. Light, good ergonomics, surprisingly adept hardware. Fit and finish were as well superb. Simply the resale, similar Bongo said, wasn`t slap-up. I resold both of mine for more than I paid from Amazon, just merely because we got such groovy deals on the sales. The prices - when on sale - are Non reflective of the quality. They are an outstanding purchase if yous catch a good sale !
  11. Information technology'due south not a real affair of beauty, only the resulting strap balance and ergonomics are excellent.
  12. Having owned an Border Hammer (Edge torso, mahogany body & neck) & played pretty much every other edge model on the market place (I know the guys at Dean UK), I'd say the Edge basses are really good for the model!! But, I'd rather have a Hillsboro (another bass I own), but that's because I adopt the neck on the Hillsboro.
  13. The neck is indeed thin, (mine was 1 7/16), but not 1 i/8 as stated above.

The Motto looks just like the Hillsboro. I guess they're milking that mode now for all it's worth.
  15. I came beyond a Dean Edge Q4 Bartolini and it blew me away! I had never played a bass with Bartolini pickups but was thoroughly impressed! I can now see why Ibanez uses them only for their higher end models!

I was so impressed with it, that I went alee and scooped upwardly 5 of the Edge Q4 Bartolinis in exchange for money owed to me. They are all new and/or mint, and sold new for $519.00. I figured I could sell them for near half that and still break even for money owed. Heck, the pickups alone are worth $200- $250.00!

I guess the 'Dean' name scares people off because I haven't had one unmarried striking on whatever of them!

I think folks are missing the gunkhole with these beasts, just similar they used to with the old Peavey United states bass guitars!

  16. Coincidentally, I traded my Dean for a T-forty just a couple weeks ago. Now that is a creature ! :bassist:
  17. T-xl great bass guitars, but besides heavy for this old man!! ;)
  18. A friend of mine owns a Dean Edge Bass, information technology costs something like 200 bucks, new. He bought it almost ten years ago. Since then he recorded everything with it, it took some beetings,...and information technology is still in great shape and plays really well.

Compared to an Epiphone (B-0) and an Squire (Vintage-Vibe, with Humbucker) the Dean is the all-time - by far - of them all! Construction-wise, reliability, cervix, consistency... tone-wise it is another affair, it has a lot low-end but not and so much mid-range...other than that, I'd recommend a Dean Border Bass anytime!

Right now I am looking for a Dean Motto Bass - if anybody has one to offering,...please let me know!
