Matt Fowler of IGN gave the episode an "okay" half dozen.eight out of x and wrote in his verdict, "Bruce blowing off some steam was the highlight of this calendar week'southward clunky cop-straightening episode, 'A Twenty-four hours in the Narrows,' equally Pyg became even less Pyg-like, the GCPD became a terror squad, and Penguin's pilus rose to new, absurd heights."[iv]

Kyle Fowle of The A.Five. Club wrote "Gotham has done a skillful chore of slowly building to this episode, which feels similar a climax of sorts when Bullock ends up botching an functioning after Gordon warns him to call it off. Every episode has steadily contributed to a better understanding of how Pax Penguina is affecting the city, the GCPD, and the human relationship between Gordon and Bullock. It's clear, constructive storytelling."[vii]

Nick Hogan of TV Overmind gave the episode a 4 star rating out of v, writing "Ultimately the episode was still a proficient i, simply only because the Professor Pyg story was so strong. I'd have similar to seen the other things take place in a futurity episode. Merely hey, I'll take what I can get!"[half-dozen] Sydney Bucksbaum of The Hollywood Reporter wrote, "Ane of Gordon'due south fellow cops that he saved from Professor Pyg'southward attack decided to stop accepting Penguin'southward Pax Penguina licenses for crime. It'southward minor, but it's meaningful, especially since Bullock seems to be slipping back into his sometime, bad habits."[8]

Vinnie Mancuso of Collider wrote, "While 'A Day In The Narrows' doesn't quite hold up to final week'southward Gotham in the episode title department, it does continue the streak of these directly upward cartoonishly absurd hours of television that Season 4 has been popping out on the regular, and I for 1 am into it."[9] Lisa Babick of TV Fanatic gave the series a 4.5 star rating out of 5, writing "Gotham needs to pump them back up. These fiddling teases need to become reality. There's no reason three badass women can't rule Gotham'due south underworld."[5] Marc Buxton of Den of Geek gave wrote, "For the outset time, potentially in the four-year history of this show, Gotham has made an effective argument for the GCPD. It only took playing the corrupt cop thing out to some of its darkest conclusions for information technology to get there."[10]
